This piece was made using burnished red clay. The colour was obtained after a 2 day process of smoke-firing the piece.
To make the cordage I used locally harvested and processed bark from Himalayan blackberry (Rubus armeniacus), an invasive species where I live on Vancouver Island (territory of the K’omox Nation). I remove the outer bark of the plant using the edge of local clam shells as a tool to obtain the beautiful fibre from the inner bark.
Measures approx.: 8 1/4″ x 19″ x 0.30″ / 21 x 48.26 x 1.25 cm* (including cordage when hanging up on the wall).
*a smaller box will be shipped of approx. 8.12″ x 5″ x 0.30″ / 21 x 12.5 x 1.25 cm as he cordage will be folded.
