Nettle Fibre Processing Circle

  • Dates: Sunday, Jan 29, 2023,  2-4 pm
  • Locations: The Spool Sewing Studio, 420 Fitzgerald Ave #4, Courtenay, BC V9N 1M2
  • Fee: $45

Join community-engaged environmental artist Juliana Bedoya at The Spool Sewing Studio to process nettles for fibre and share in community the lessons and gifts this plant has to offer as food, medicine, dye and as an ancient textile. Working with our hands while also drinking nettle tea, we will learn how to be in relationship with the plant and with the places we would be gathering from. We will also discuss when, where, how to harvest and how to process green or retted stalks for fibre. Materials will be provided but participants can also bring their own green or pre-retted nettle stalks to be processed.

Our new studio space at The Spool Sewing Studio is also the new headquarters of the Vancouver Island Fibreshd and we are very excited to continue hosting a series of fibre events at our space.
